At a Glance
Bead count: 108 beads
Materials: Sandalwood and Rudraksha, ceramic, beeswax-style and lotus/Bodhi-style elements
Product type: Buddhist prayer mala / meditation beads
108-bead malas are widely used across Buddhist and other dharmic traditions as a practical structure for repeated prayer and mantra recitation. Moving one bead at a time allows the hands to keep count while attention stays with the sound, breath, or intention of the practice.
Different traditions give different explanations for the significance of 108, so we present it here as a traditional practice count rather than claiming one single universal meaning.
Sandalwood & Practice
Sandalwood has a long history in South and East Asian religious practice, including use in ritual, fragrance, devotional objects, and meditation settings. In a mala, the wooden beads add warmth, texture, and a natural tactile rhythm to repeated handling.
How to Use This Mala
For mantra counting: Move one bead at a time for each repetition, keeping the hands relaxed and the attention on the mantra.
For breath meditation: Use one bead for each slow breath to create a steady tactile rhythm.
For quiet prayer or reflection: Let each bead mark a prayer, name, phrase, or intention that is meaningful to your practice.
At the guru bead: If you use the larger terminal bead as the guru bead, it can mark the beginning and completion of a round. Many practitioners reverse direction rather than crossing over it.
Meaning & Intention
This mala is best understood as a practice tool and symbolic object rather than a promise of a particular result. Its 108-bead structure supports repetition and focus, while the natural wood and seed elements create a grounded, tactile experience for prayer and meditation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be Buddhist to use this mala? No. Mala beads can be used for Buddhist practice, meditation, breath counting, quiet reflection, or meaningful daily wear. Respectful use is more important than having a particular religious identity.
How do I use a 108-bead mala? Move through the beads one at a time while repeating a mantra, following the breath, or returning to a chosen prayer or intention.
What is the purpose of the guru bead? The larger terminal bead commonly marks the beginning and completion of a round. Many practitioners reverse direction when they reach it instead of crossing over it.
Is it blessed before dispatch? Yes. Every product is ceremonially blessed before dispatch.
Can it be given as a gift? Yes. It can be a thoughtful gift for someone interested in meditation, prayer, Buddhist practice, yoga, or mindful living.
Care
Keep the mala away from prolonged water exposure, perfume, lotion, and harsh chemicals. Store it in a dry place when not in use and wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Because wood and seed elements can change subtly with handling and age, variations in tone and surface character are part of the material.
Our Giving Commitment
